Eat several times a day. To maintain a steady flow of energy throughout the long hours on the set of Alias, Jennifer Garner eats every three hours.
Use food as fuel. Jennifer Garner performs most of her own stunts and relies on power-packed snacks midmorning and mid afternoon to give her a boost.
Never miss breakfast! Not eating a healthy breakfast can lead to binge eating of high-fat foods, warns trainer Valerie Waters.
* Keep healthful snacks on hand. Having munchies at the ready helps Jennifer Garner feel satisfied and avoid cravings. Says Valerie Waters, "If you let yourself get ravenous, it's hard to be rational and not eat the first thing in sight. When you're really hungry, you crave cookies, breads and pasta; foods that the body can break down quickly into sugar for an energy boost."
* Indulge (in moderation) on special occasions. "I really try to watch what I eat most of the time," Jennifer Garner says. "But if I'm at a dinner party or event, I'll eat what's offered and I don't beat myself up over it. I may have a piece of bread, enjoy a glass of wine or a small portion of dessert, but I'll try not to do all three. And then I make sure to get back on track the next day with my usual eating plan."
"I find it incredible; even when I'm shooting 16 hours a day; that I'm still able to keep up my energy level by spreading my meals throughout the day," says Jennifer.

Valerie Waters responds when asked how actors get in shape for their roles:
CNN It begs the question: how do they do it?
VALERIE WATERS, JENNIFER GARNER`S PERSONAL TRAINER: Discipline, strong but excited and motivated, and the motivation has got to come from inside. And typically, the celebrities` motivation is the fact that they`re going to be on the big screen.
During the interview the CNN reporter observes that the actor's training sounds like hard work. Valerie responds:
VALERIE WATERS: I believe that the biggest misconception that America has is that they think that the celebrities have it easier. And this is not true. And I can tell you they still have to not eat the cookie. They still have to not have the bread at the restaurant. They still have to get up and do their workout, and often that means training at 4 or 5 in the morning, which is not the most fun.
CNN ... they get in shape the old-fashioned way, by working hard? To which Valerie Waters responds:
VALERIE WATERS: Five meals a day, no starchy carbs, no sugar, no processed food, and working out five days a week, maybe even six days a week, but for an hour.
