A native of Toronto, Harley's expertise was constantly in demand by filmmakers needing to quickly get their stars in top form while on location. After training with Harley in Montreal, Halle Berry was so impressed with her fast and easy results that she asked Harley to relocate to Los Angeles in order to continue as her personal trainer.
In addition to Halle Berry, Harley works with such celebrities as: Benjamin Bratt, Eva Mendes, Rachel Weisz, Stephen Dorff, Eve, Rick Fox, Sanaa Lathan, Kanye West, Christian Slater, Eliza Dushku, Jim Caviezel, Ray Liotta, Orlando Bloom, Val Kilmer, Michael Stipes and LL Cool J (just to name a few). Clients train privately with Harley at his exclusive fitness facility built on the grounds of his West Hollywood home. Harley also owns the world's largest and best equipped mobile gym which he takes with him when he trains on location. The trailer is 53 feet long with an 11-foot plexi glass ceiling and state of the art equipment. Will Smith recently rented Harley's mobile gym while on location for the movie Hitch.
For those who don't have access to his private training sessions, Harley's new bestselling book outlines his simple diet and fitness program. In 5-Factor Fitness (Putnam) Harley's simple plan requires you to eat more and workout less in order to easily achieve and maintain the best shape and health for your body. Harley's philosophy is that, "There is a difference between training hard and training smart."
Harley Pasternak holds a Masters of Science in the field of Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto and an honors degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. Harley is one of the select few accredited IDEA Master Trainers and holds certifications from The American College of Sports Medicine and The Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology.
Harley is currently the national spokesperson for Precor Fitness Equipment and has consulted for various health and fitness related companies in the United States such as SlimFast, Nutros, Gold's Gym USA, Icarian, New York Sports Clubs, and Isarori Labs.
Harley is also an advisor to a number of professional organizations: the National Strength & Conditioning Association, The Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, The Canadian Health and Food Association, The Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine and Fitness Products International. He recently completed exercise and nutrition research for the Canadian Department of National Defense.
As an internationally recognized expert on the topic of Multi-Variable Training, fitness conditioning, performance nutrition, and exercise physiology, Harley has contributed to a host of publications, including, but not limited to: the #1 selling fitness book and New York Times Bestseller, ABSolution: The Practical Guide for Training Your ABS, Men's Health, Real Solutions, Glamour, Jane and Elle magazines.
In addition Harley continues to publish exercise science and nutrition articles in various scientific and lay journals.
Harley has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Extra and Access Hollywood and also hosted a weekly television exercise segment on The Right Fit.
